Paul Law Memorial Scholarship

Paul Law was an RTOS Member, Past-President, and all-around good friend to RTOS and its members.  Paul was responsible for supporting the Eastman Bunch series for years.  He spent countless hours at the theater letting students practice, and hopefully develop a love for Theater Organ.  Paul was also a member of AGO (American Guild of Organists) and ATOS (American Theatre Organ Society).  He was the Co-chair of the ATOS 2019 Convention here in Rochester.

When Paul passed away, he left a significant bequest to RTOS.  Given Paul’s love for organs and getting young people involved in music, the RTOS Board decided to earmark some of this money to help young people get involved with Theatre Organ.  ATOS runs a Summer Youth Adventure where young people gather for a week with several well-respected Theater Organists to learn the tips from the best.  RTOS Board decided to pay the tuition for one student every year in memory of Paul.  It is a fraction of what it cost these young people to get to the event and pay for lodging, but every little bit helps.

This year the Summer Youth Adventure is being held in Seattle, Washington.  Students will be able to play the following:

WURLITZER MANOR, GIG HARBOR – 4/48 Wurlitzer
MERLYN JOHNSON RESIDENCE, TACOMA – 3/24 Robert-Morton
TAHOMA STUDIO, MAPLE VALLEY – 3/35 Wurlitzer
CALVARY CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY, SEATTLE – 3/25 Kimball/Wurlitzer
The instructors will be – Jelani Eddington, Donna Parker, Jonas Nordwall and Don Feely.

This will be RTOS’s first year helping Joseph Pechenik, age 16 to attend.  Joseph attends school here in Rochester, was a participant in the 2019 ATOS convention and has been attending our concerts.  RTOS is happy to help Joseph in Paul’s memory.

The young man in the dark suit to the extreme right is Joseph Pechenik.
